4-Day Garden Route Spectacular
Day 1 - Depart for an overland drive to Oudtshoorn via Route 62. Route 62 is one of the most beautiful travelling routes in South Africa and one of the least known and least travelled. It offers the traveller an interesting and relaxing drive through the fertile valleys of the Klein Karoo and rugged rock formations. The road leads over steep passes, which open up to spectacular views of the vast land. Oudtshoorn is the world biggest centre for ostrich breeding and your first stop is a guided tour and barbeque lunch on an Ostrich Farm. Continue to the Cango Caves which features some of the biggest stalagmite formations in the world, and colourfully illuminated sandstone formations. Overnight in Oudtshoorn.
Day 2 - Depart after Breakfast and drive over the breathtaking Outeniqua Pass to Knysna, via the seaside resorts of Wilderness and Sedgefield. The bay in Knysna is surrounded by two impressive rocks called the Knysna Heads. Knysna is seen as the touristic centre of the Garden Route. Following the example of Cape Town, the town also has a little waterfront, with a yacht harbour, restaurants, boutiques and much more. Enjoy a boat trip on the Knysna Lagoon with the opportunity for lunch on this floating restaurant. Continue to Plettenberg Bay for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 - Depart after a leisurely breakfast to the Knysna Elephant Park for a guided tour of these gentle giants. Continue to George Station for the ever popular train trip on the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, a historical train pulled by a steam engine. The ride goes through breathtaking landscape with stunning views of fern-covered mountain tops, wide river plains with crystal-clear water, swamps, lagoons, endless sand beaches and the deep-blue sea to Mosselbay. Enjoy a visit to the Diaz Museum with the well known Post Office Tree before continuing to your hotel for dinner and overnight.Day 4 - Leisurely departure along the National Road, past wheat fields and farms to the historical town of Swellendam for an early lunch, before continuing on the scenic route via Betty’s Bay and Hangklip to Cape Town International Airport for your connection flight, or overnight in Cape Town. |
